The Latest...

...well, sort of.
Although I'm still real busy (getting tired of hearing that? so am I), I've found a little time to put together my second sketchbook. I'm hoping it'll be ready in time for this year's Comic-Con International in San Diego, but I'm not counting on it. Either way it'll ba available through this blog and, I'm assuming, Bud Plant. I'll keep you all informed as we get closer to July 26th.

Speaking of the SDCC, this year I decided not to setup a table, but to let the professional sellers do their thing and do what they do best that way I can wander around and just schmooze with everyone.

I was hoping I might have some big news by this Comic-Con concerning the 'special' project I'm developing, but it won't be this year - maybe next? These things always take longer than we hope. We're getting closer all the time...

...in the meantime here's a sample from the new book to whet your appetite (I hope)...

Hey, I don't know if this is true or not so I'm hoping you actually check these comments. I recently found an entry in a site about a show called X-men The Last Stand which would be sort of a continuation off the Evolution series. The site even included a cast list and several links to images online of the characters (drawn by you) Now no one on the site can verify if it's really going to happen and the artical was posted in 2005 I believe, but I was wondering is it true? I looked it up in the image section of google and found a few character sheets of yours for The Last Stand but nothing about it being in production or anything like that. So, basically is there such a show? If not I would rather know then just keep hoping it comes into existance.

Thanks a million

Woohoo! New sketchbook!
I'm looking forward to it.

Just wondering, are you going
to do free character sketches
with this one like with your
first ? If so, I think a lot of us would enjoy that!
(Seemed like everyone loved
getting thier own
X-Men sketches, anyway.)
If not, hey, it's good you're doing
a second book.

Hope you have fun at the SDCC!

BTW THIS CAME FROM JEFF MATSUDA'S BLOG:

"I've also just finished doing character designs for a new Marvel DVD which when announced will be huge. It features two of my favorite Marvel heroes and favorite baddies as well. This job was a geeks dream for me.

I'll post pictures when things are announced"

Thanks for all the positive reaction..and some of the confusing reactions (comkxguy).

Sara: the name of the last live=action film was X-Men the Last Stand and I had drawn some children's book adaptations of the film. I assume that's what you've come across.

I haven't decided whether I will include a sketch or not - probably.

HI EVERYONE, THIS POST IS COMING FROM SKOTTIE YOUNG'S BLOG -

I THINK THIS NEEDS TO BE READ:

"When I became a man I put away childish things, including the desire to be very grown up."

C.S. Lewis said this when people asked him why he wrote books for children. This reminds me to keep in mind the origin of what I love most...drawing. Before I knew what Marvel or D.C. was, before I knew what a comic book, or super hero was, I drew pictures. I love drawing. I can't recall what I liked drawing the most, probably because I drew so much there is no way to remember. I drew all the time, with any tool that created a line on paper.

Amongst the contracts, negotiations, signings, failed projects, good and bad reviews, deadlines, tussles with editors and studio execs., 35 airports a year, the same convention halls over and over, and anything else that goes along with the professional artist label...it is easy for me to forget what I wanted to do this for.

I love drawing.

That's the end of it really. I love it. I love the kid that lives here no matter how many books I sell, or how much money I put in the bank. I need to remind myself to put away the childish "desire to be very grown up." and just put pencil to paper. I never used to need anyone to like what I drew. I didn't know to want it. I just wanted to turn a blank piece of paper into something, anything, just as long as it looked fun. An animal, a world that I have never seen, a twist on the world I have. Amongst all the things that have over shadowed that ideal, I have lost the child.

After hearing this quote, I wrote it down and pinned it on the bulletin board in front of my table. That's why these warm up drawings started happening. I always told myself I didn't have time to draw anything for fun, I had to work. But, like those parents who have kids and need to make time for them no matter what...I am reminding myself to do the same.

PLEASE GO TO SKOTTIE YOUNG'S BLOG AND COMMENT THERE

AND REMIND YOURSELF TO DO THE SAME

THANKX
